Mumbai: Famous musician Laxmikant’s daughter on Tuesday said that the Laxmikant-Pyarelal duo gave music in more than 700 films and she welcomes the decision of giving Padma Bhushan to Pyarelal but her late father should also get this honour. Laxmikant’s family has also written a letter to the Union Home Ministry and Information and Broadcasting Ministry regarding the matter. Pyarelal, who is a part of the legendary music composer duo Laxmikant-Pyarelal, was nominated for the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian honour, on the eve of Republic Day.
Rajeshwari Laxmikant said, ‘We are very happy that Pyarelal uncle has finally received the award. We feel that when it comes to Padma Bhushan award, you cannot separate Laxmikant-Pyarelal and give the award to Pyarelal uncle just because he is here and my father has unfortunately passed away. Laxmikant’s wife Jaya Kudalkar in her letter has appealed to the government to give this honor to her late husband along with Pyarelal.
This letter was sent to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting three days ago, whereas this letter was written to the Home Ministry a day earlier i.e. on Tuesday. Rajeshwari said that the family wrote this letter because Laxmikant-Pyarelal are known as a music composer duo.
