Sharad Kelkar shares the story of his career struggle in Cesar Broacha’s podcast. Sharad Grasim was the finalist of Mr. India and came to Mumbai in 2002 to pursue a career in modeling. He says that as a model he worked for many advertisements, but it was not that easy. He says that when for the first time he got an offer of Rs 5000 for a fashion show as a model, he was very excited, because before that he used to earn Rs 2750 a month as a gym trainer.

Sharad Kelkar’s hunger was satisfied with four eggs and two rotis

Sharad Kelkar says, ‘I came to Mumbai for the first time on vacation to meet my cousin. Meanwhile, a call came for a fashion show. I used to live with nine boys in a single room in Bandra’s Bazaar Road. There was a Rajasthani hotel which provided dabba service. A chapati cost Rs 2 and a few eggs. Somehow I had arranged for a gas cylinder. My deal was simple, four eggs and two rotis, morning and evening. That is all. I used to get it for Rs.25.

When work was available, we used to party

During the podcast, Sharad Kelkar was asked if he could ever spend on alcohol in those days? The actor said, ‘It was a matter of privilege. Perhaps once in three months such a situation used to happen. We used to party only when we got some work, like an advertisement or a photoshoot. Otherwise it was a difficult time. But when I started getting work in TV, things got better.

Used to earn 2750 rupees a month by becoming a gym trainer

Sharad Kelkar said that he used to work as a trainer in a gym in those days to make ends meet. For this, there was an earning of Rs 2750 every month. When she was offered Rs 5000 to walk the ramp for ‘three minutes’ at a fashion show, she readily accepted it. He says, ‘I felt something inside me about Mumbai, and then that’s how I started.’
