This beautifully shot documentary is about an unusual family living in a forest in Tamil Nadu, yet it is much more than that. The 41-minute film begins with a beautiful montage of forest life. We are in Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. The views are stunning. Surrounding hills, tigers roaming the plains, monkeys performing tricks in the trees, birds chirping, while a calm stream runs through the rocks. Shot so beautifully as if to explain why forests are not the wildest of places even with wild animals running around.
For non-Tamil speaking viewers, the documentary presents a challenge, focusing on the subtitles while at the same time being mesmerized by the beauty of nature. The photos are soothing to the eyes, but Bowman and Bailey’s enlightening words drive the story and tell the story of a family brought together because of the wilderness. The narrative compliments the visuals so well that neither one overpowers the other.
