Oscars 2024: Entry for Oscars 2024 has started. The Oscar Committee also started entries on official website in India. In this, names of 20 films from across the country will be given.
From India, the Film Federation of India has selected films like Sebalagam, The Kerala Story, Zweigo and Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani. The Oscar committee has started its process through multiple screenings in Chennai and the final announcement is expected by next week.
It was a great year for India at the Oscars earlier this year, with SS Rajamouli’s ‘RRR’ and Guneet Monga’s ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ winning two Academy Awards.
According to a source, this has created “new confidence” among filmmakers in choosing projects. That’s why they are focusing on “a wide range of commercial, regional as well as serious cinema in the country”.
According to media reports, the committee has received more than 22 entries from across India, and the decision will be taken by a 17-member jury headed by filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli.
According to Hindustan Times, “Some of the films that have been sent to the Film Federation of India for Oscar selection include Ananth Mahadevan’s ‘The Storyteller’ (Hindi), ‘Music School’ (Hindi), ‘Mrs. Chatterjee vs Norway’ ( Hindi), ’12th Fail’ (Hindi), ‘Viduthalai Part 1’ (Tamil), ‘Ghoomar’ (Hindi), and ‘Dussehra’ (Telugu).
Sources say, “Some films like ‘Valvi’ (Marathi), ‘Gadar 2’ (Hindi), ‘Sab Bhagwan Bharose’ (Hindi), and ‘Baap Lyok’ (Marathi) can be added to the list.
The committee members have reached Chennai and are excited about the process. The source said, “The screening started yesterday, and it will take a week because there is a huge group of films to watch and then they will decide.
On September 23, it will be announced which film has been nominated for Oscar this year. This is a matter of great pride.
Last year, Pan Nalin’s Gujarati film, Chhelo Show, was named as one of India’s official entries for the Best International Feature Film category of the 95th Academy Awards, which received a mixed response.
