What would be the loss?
If you do not link PAN with Aadhaar by March 31, 2023, it will become useless. As per the government guidelines, the person will be equally liable under the Income Tax Act, 1961 for not furnishing the PAN. If you link PAN with Aadhaar by March 31, 2023, then you have to pay only Rs 1000 late fine. A late fine of Rs 1000 was imposed by the CBDT for linking PAN with Aadhaar after June 30, 2022.
How to link PAN with Aadhaar
PAN card holders can link PAN with Aadhaar through both SMS and online mode. In SMS, you have to send an SMS from your registered mobile number to 567678 or 56161. Apart from this, you can link PAN with Aadhaar online by visiting the Income Tax Portal and deposit Rs 1000 late fee. Let’s know its process.
step 1. First of all go to the official website of Income Tax Department incometaxindiaefiling.gov.in.
Step 2. If you are not already registered, please register.
Step 3. Now log-in to the portal using User ID, Password and Date of Birth. Here the user ID will be your PAN number.
Step 4. Now you will see a pop-up window for PAN Aadhaar link.
Step 5. Now go to Profile Settings from the menu bar and click on ‘Link Aadhaar’.
Step 6. After this enter your PAN number, Aadhaar number and your name.
Step 7. If necessary, tick the box “I have only year of birth in Aadhaar card”.
Step 8. Now click on the ‘Link Aadhaar’ button.
Step 9. If the information entered is matching with your PAN and Aadhaar records, you need to click on the ‘Link Now’ button. With this, your PAN card will be linked with your Aadhaar card.
Step 10. After linking, a pop-up message will let you know that your Aadhaar details have been updated with your PAN records.
Pay fine like this
CBDT had imposed a late fine of Rs 1000 for linking PAN with Aadhaar after June 30, 2022. To link PAN card with Aadhaar, you have to pay late fee. For this you have to go to Protean. Now after clicking on CHALLAN NO/ITNS 280 you have to choose Tax Applicable option. After this you can choose the option of payment through Debit card or Netbanking. Now you have to fill your PAN number and captcha and click on proceed. This will result in payment of late fees.
