Why is it necessary to link PAN card with Aadhaar?
The Income Tax Department has asked PAN users that all PAN holders who do not fall under the exemption category under the Income Tax Act, 1961, should link their PAN number with Aadhaar before June 30, 2023. In case of non-linkage, your PAN will be canceled from July 1, 2023 under Section-139AA of the Income Tax Act. After this the PAN card can never be used.
Fee to be paid for linking PAN with Aadhaar
According to the Income Tax Department, till July 1, 2022, the process of linking PAN with Aadhaar was free. After this, PAN users were given a chance to link till June 30, 2022, but the fee was fixed at Rs 500. 1,000 as late fee.
How to Pay the PAN Aadhaar Linking Fee:
- According to the Income Tax website, easy online steps have been given for PAN users to pay the PAN Aadhaar linking fee of Rs 1,000, which are as follows-
- Users have to visit the NSDL portal to place a request for PAN Aadhaar linking.
- Click on Proceed under Challan No./ITNS 280 to submit the PAN Aadhaar linking request.
- Now choose Select Tax Applicable.
- Thereafter make sure to pay Rs 1,000 (fee) and charges under that in a single challan.
- Choose the mode of payment from Net Banking or Debit Card.
- Enter PAN, select the specified year and enter the address.
- After this enter the captcha code and click on proceed.
- Once the payment is done, the taxpayer can link PAN-Aadhaar.
