Filmmaker Kamlesh K Mishra’s feature film Azamgarh is based on some real incidents related to terrorism. In the poster of the upcoming film, Pankaj Tripathi is seen in the getup of Maulvi. In this film, the actor will be seen playing the role of a Maulvi, who leads the youth on the path of terrorism. Now it has come to light that when Pankaj Tripathi came to know about the release of this film and his name being used in its promotion, he got furious. The actor now wants to take legal action against the makers. He had worked in a short cameo role on this short film five years back. However, it could not release on time.

Pankaj Tripathi wants to take legal action against the makers of Azamgarh

Pankaj Tripathi was not aware of the release of Azamgarh. It was only when he saw hoardings of the film everywhere that he came to know about its OTT release. This comes at a time when Pankaj is working on one of the biggest films of his career, Oh My God 2. If the actor’s name is associated with a film like Azamgarh, it will reflect badly.

According to sources, Pankaj Tripathi was told that it is a short film and he shot for only three days for it. However, the makers are now using his name to promote the film as if he is playing the lead role in it. Sources said that Pankaj does not want such ‘cheap popularity’. The actor also worked on this film without taking any remuneration. Pankaj Tripathi said that he does not want the makers to promote Azamgarh using his name. If they do not agree, he will take legal action against them. According to the actor, he has a small role in the film and the way his face is being prominently shown in the poster is wrong.

Azamgarh is the first feature film of Kamlesh Mishra. It was previously selected at three major film festivals in the US. The filmmaker has also won the National Film Award for his documentary film Madhubani: The Station of Colours. Azamgarh reached the finalist level at the Seattle Film Festival and also made it to the semi-finalist category at the DC South Asian Film Festival. Azamgarh will release on OTT on Mask TV. Mask TV’s OTT creative head Sanjay Bhatt said that through the film, the makers have tried to show that not everyone living in Azamgarh is a terrorist. The story of this 90-minute film is from the years 2001 to 2008 when India, America and Europe were shaken by major terrorist attacks. Shot in 2018, Azamgarh could not release in theaters earlier due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Newcomer Anuj Sharma plays the role of a young boy in the film, who gets involved in terrorist activities despite his good education.
