Pankaj Udhas’ Funeral: Zakir Hussain, Shankar Mahadevan paid last tribute to the great singer – Dainik Savera Times

Mumbai: Before the funeral of famous singer Pankaj Udhas, many celebrities reached his Mumbai residence to express their condolences to the bereaved family. Musician Shankar Mahadevan and Ustad Zakir Hussain were seen visiting the house of the singer, who died on February 26 after a prolonged illness. Remembering the ghazal singer, Mahadevan said, “His approach towards everything in life was positive. May God give his family abundant strength to bear this great loss. I am in a state of shock.”

Padmashree recipient, Pankaj Udhas died on Monday at the age of 72. The news of his demise was confirmed by his family through a statement. The statement said, “With deep sorrow, we inform you of the demise of Padmashree Pankaj Udhas on February 26 due to prolonged illness. – Udhas family.” Pankaj Udhas was born on 17 May 1951 in Jetpur, Gujarat. Apart from ghazals, he was also known for his film work. In 1980, he gained widespread popularity with his solo ghazal album ‘Aahat’. Later, he recorded other successes, including Mukhraar (1981), Tarannum (1982), Mehfil (1983) and many others.

Some of her popular performances are ‘Chitthi Aayi Hai’, ‘Chandni Raat Mein’, ‘Na Kajre Ki Dhar’, ‘Aur Aahista Kariye Baatein’, ‘Ek Taraf Uska Ghar’ and ‘Thodi Thodi Piya Karo’. After learning about the singer’s demise, fans and members of the music and film industry paid emotional and touching tributes to him on social media. Veteran actor Anupam Kher said in a video message, “Pankaj Udhas ji. Why do some people leave like this? There are some people whom you meet rarely, but whenever you have met them, you have beautiful memories of them.

When you suddenly realize that they are gone, their memories flood your mind.” Kher made a reference to the popular song ‘Chitthi Aayi Hai’ and said, “Now letters will not come.” He shared, “I have heard him sing this song many times. At that time, we met often. We even flew together twice, having an unplanned encounter on the way to America. He was a very gentle, sweet, good-hearted person.”
