Bajrang Punia’s hopes for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics are over. Now he will not be able to represent the country in the Olympics. However, Vinesh Phogat’s hopes are still alive. The 2020 Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist could not top his weight category in the national selection trials, which are being conducted by the Indian Olympic Association-appointed (IOA) ad-hoc committee. At the same time, Vinesh Phogat had won in the women’s 50 category.

Let us tell you that the remaining two Olympic qualification competitions are yet to be held. Whereas Bajrang Punia’s hopes were dashed because, performance in the national qualifiers will determine whether a wrestler will be sent for the Olympic qualifiers or not.

In his semi-final match in the men’s 65 kg category, Bajrang lost 1-9 to Rohit Kumar. However, Rohit had to face defeat against Sujit Kalakal in the final.

While talking about Vinesh Phogat’s performance, Vinesh competed in two categories. Out of which he was defeated by Anju by 0-10 in the semi-finals of 53 kg category. But in the 50 kg category, Vinesh recovered from the 3-6 defeat and registered a 1-6 win against Shivani in the final.
