Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone and John Abraham starrer film Pathan has created a storm at the box office. King Khan is back on the big screen after four years playing the lead role in the film ‘Pathan’. The film has earned more than Rs 700 crore worldwide in nine days after its release on January 25. Regarding this, now Pathan director Siddharth Anand said that when the film started breaking records at the box office amid boycott appeals, the entire team was thrilled for the first few days, they could not believe it. Everyone was hugging each other, but no one was saying a single word lest this magic might break.

Siddharth Anand said in an interview to PTI-Bhasha, “We really could not believe it. We were thinking that the level of earning and the kind of love we are getting, this cannot be true. We didn’t know about it beforehand. To be honest, who would have guessed, every day we are breaking records. No matter how good you consider your film, but no one can guess it.

He said, we were a bit shocked that what is happening? We were happy, we were hugging each other, but we didn’t want to overshadow it by saying something. Pathan is an important link in the Yash Raj Films (YRF) detective series, in which characters from different films have also appeared briefly in this film. Salman Khan has a character named ‘Tiger’ in Pathan for a while, which has become quite popular. “We are well on our way to do something really special and historic with the YRF detective series,” Anand said.

He said, we are going to do something special, which not everyone does and the audience will like it. It’s still a work in progress, so I wouldn’t like to talk too much about it or look into it, but the next few years are going to be very exciting. When asked about ‘Pathan 2’, he said, it is too early. My next film is ‘Fighter’ and it is also a very important film. It has tremendous action and has big actors like Hrithik Roshan, Deepika Padukone and Anil Kapoor. This is a big dream. I have spent many sleepless nights because of this.

Boycott gang had no guts

Siddharth Anand further said, there was a lot of pressure regarding Pathan as well. Because four years later it was Shah Rukh Khan’s first film and then after the controversy over Deepika Padukone’s outfit in the song ‘Besharam Rang’, the hashtag ‘Boycott Bollywood’ was run. Anand said that the number of advance bookings had proved that the boycott appeal had made no difference to the audience. There was a lot of anxiety, he said, because a lot was at stake. You don’t know where it will lead. We were sure that there is nothing wrong with our film. We were sure that once people see the film, they will realize that this (boycott) appeal has no merit.

Shahrukh Khan signed this film after rejecting many films.

The director said, when people’s career and money are at stake, you may be worried why are they doing this? He should watch the film before commenting. He said that he did not want to disappoint Shahrukh Khan. Shahrukh Khan chose his film after a break of four years. He said, his attitude was that I would choose such a film which would work for me. If he chose your film after rejecting many films, then there will be pressure that a veteran like Shah Rukh Khan has reposed faith in you. (language input)
