PCB invites Jay Shah to visit Pakistan for opening match of Asia Cup

Lahore : Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Secretary of the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) and President of the ACC (Asian Cricket Council) on Friday Jai Shah has been invited to participate in the opening match of the Asia Cup to be played between Pakistan and Nepal at Multan on 30 August. The PCB said that apart from Shah, it has also invited several other board chiefs associated with the Asian Cricket Council for the inaugural match. A PCB source said that an invitation has been sent to Shah but the chances of him coming to Pakistan are slim.

A PCB source said, “PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf had verbally invited Jay Shah during the ICC meeting in Durban. The board has now sent a formal invitation. According to Pakistan’s media, Shah has accepted PCB’s invitation, but the BCCI secretary denied this claim. A source familiar with the current relations between India and Pakistan said that by inviting Shah, the PCB wanted to show that it does not mix sports with politics.
Asia Cup will start from August 30
The Asia Cup will be held from August 30 to September 17 at venues in Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Despite being the President of the ACC, it was Jai Shah who, in his capacity as the Secretary of the BCCI, had directly stated that Team India would not tour Pakistan.
