Bengaluru. Bengaluru Bulls recorded a hard-fought 32-30 win against Jaipur Pink Panthers in the final game of the second leg at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Wednesday.
An excellent defensive performance saw the Bulls score an incredible 13 tackle points – eight of which came from defensive corners Saurabh Nandal and Aman.
Despite the Bulls’ bright start on the mat, the Pink Panthers’ defensive weaknesses came to the fore as they slowly took the lead on the scoreboard. Despite the lack of any multi-point raids the Bulls were soon facing an all-out. Bharat’s 50th raid point of the season came at the cost of an all-out as the Panthers took a 10-6 lead.
That setback, however, did not dampen the hopes of the home team, who slowly got back into the game. The Bulls tightened their raiding and defending tactics to put the Pink Panthers on the backfoot. At the break, the Pink Panthers were ahead by one point at 15-14.
Then, in the second half, the Pink Panthers came out of the blocks quickly and took a good lead, but the Bulls soon counterattacked. He achieved the level score of 21-21 by giving his all-out. The difference was the strength of the defence. The Bulls scored an excellent 8 tackle points, six more than their opponents in the second half alone.
A battle of attrition ensued, with neither team managing to take a lead of more than one point until the final minutes of the game. Vikash Kandola went for the final raid for the Bulls when they finally took a two-point lead. Almost immediately the Pink Panthers attacked, but Ankush dealt with them and took the lead with only one raid remaining.
V. Ajith Kumar was tasked with helping the Pink Panthers at least tie the game, but the strong Bulls defense bowled him out spectacularly and sent a frenzy in the stands.
