New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed his happiness over the strong performance of Indian women wrestlers in the Under-20 World Championship. Hailing the Indian women wrestlers for winning the team title for the first time in the Under-20 World Championship, terming it as a big win. Modi said on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), ‘Great victory for Indian women wrestlers. Our team won the women’s wrestling team title in the Under-20 World Championship 2023 with a unique performance of seven medals including three gold.

Last Friday created history by becoming the first woman wrestler from India to win back-to-back Under-20 world titles in the 53kg category. Savita also won the title in the 62 kg category and the Indian women’s team won the World Championship team title for the first time in the history of the sport.
Priya Malik won the title in 76 kg category on Thursday. Seven Indian wrestlers have won medals this time, including three gold. Finalist Kundu (65kg) won silver and Reena (57kg), Arju (68kg) and Harshita (72kg) won bronze medals.
