Mehuli Ghosh wins bronze in 10m air rifle, secures quota for Paris Olympics

New Delhi: Young shooter Mehuli Ghosh won a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle event at the World Championships to secure a quota place for India at next year’s Paris Olympics. The 22-year-old shooter from Kolkata also won the 10m Air Rifle team event with Tilotma Sen and Ramita with a total score of 1895.9.
China won the silver medal and Germany won the bronze medal with a total score of 1893.7 points. The provision of Olympic quota is limited to individual events only. Mehuli shot 229.8 in the final to ensure a podium finish, behind China’s Jiayu Han (251.4) and Zhilin Wang (250.2).

The top three shooters in the Air Rifle event are guaranteed Olympic quota places. India had secured three quotas for the Paris Olympics before Mehuli. Rudrank Patil in men’s 10m air rifle, Swapnil Kusale in men’s 50m rifle 3 positions and Bhowneesh Mendiratta in trap men.
Mehuli showed a stellar performance in the qualification round, finishing first among 140 shooters with a score of 634.5. Gold medalist Han was third in qualification and silver medalist Wang was eighth. After the final, a happy Mehuli said, ‘I am very happy to have won the bronze medal and the Olympic quota.’
