Reigning Commonwealth Games champion Lakshya Sen also failed to make it past the first round. He went down 21-23 21-16 9-21 to Anders Antonsen of Denmark. The match lasted for one hour and 18 minutes. Priyanshu Rajawat then went down 13-21, 24-26 to Indonesia’s Shesar Hiren Rustavito to end India’s challenge in men’s singles.
In women’s doubles, Trisa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand lost 18-21, 11-21 to top seeded Chinese pair of Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan. No player from India is participating in the women’s singles due to PV Sindhu’s last-minute withdrawal to focus on the Asian Games.
