World Cup India Squad: From Rohit Sharma to Bumrah, how have all 15 players performed in the last one year

Team India’s 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup starting in India from October 5 was announced on Tuesday. There was no place left for wicketkeeper-batsman Sanju Samson. Rohit Sharma: The form of the India skipper has not been good and he has struggled to score runs on several occasions. In the last one year, he has played 12 ODIs and scored 472 runs. He has scored a century, which came against New Zealand in January 2023. However, in the ODI World Cup 2019, Rohit emerged as the highest run-scorer with 648 runs in just nine matches. He would also like to repeat his heroics in the World Cup in India.

Shubman Gill: The last 12 months have been phenomenal for Shubman Gill, as the young opener soared to new heights in the 50-over format. Gill scored 948 runs in 19 matches at an average of 55.76. He has scored three centuries and three half-centuries. However, his biggest achievement came against New Zealand in January this year, when he scored his maiden double century.

Virat Kohli : This star batsman of India returned to form in 2022 after battling a bad phase. Virat Kohli went ahead like a valiant and broke many records in all the three formats. Talking about ODIs, the 34-year-old batsman has played 14 matches and scored 558 runs at an average of 46.50. He has scored three centuries, two of which came against Sri Lanka in January this year. Apart from this, he has also scored a half-century.

Ishan Kishan: The young wicketkeeper-batsman also had the best time of his life in the ODI format in the last 12 months. Kishan scored a total of 632 runs in 12 matches, in which he scored his first double century. It was the fastest 200 scored by any batsman since it was scored in just 126 balls against Bangladesh in December 2022. Apart from this, he has scored five half-centuries at an average of 57.45.

KL Rahul: Last one year has been very bad for KL Rahul as the 31-year-old batsman was battling with injuries. In May 2023, he suffered a calf injury during an Indian Premier League match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore. Later, he was named in the Asia Cup squad, but a minor injury forced him out of the first two matches. Talking about his performance, Rahul has played only 9 ODIs and scored 321 runs at an average of 45.85. His figures are also adorned with three half-centuries.

Suryakumar Yadav: The T20I batting maestro has had a disappointing year when it comes to the ODI format. Suryakumar Yadav played 13 matches and could score only 171 runs, his highest score being 35 against the West Indies. The 32-year-old batsman will now try to make a comeback in the upcoming World Cup.

Shreyas Iyer: The 28-year-old batsman had a great year in ODI cricket as he scored 537 runs in 13 matches. He has scored one century and three half-centuries at an average of 53.70. Iyer will definitely prove to be important for Team India in the ODI World Cup.

Hardik Pandya: The star all-rounder has been appointed as Rohit’s deputy in the marquee event. In the last one year, Hardik has done well with both bat and ball in ODIs. He has played 12 matches and scored 367 runs at an average of 36.70. In addition, he took 10 wickets with best figures of 3/44 against Australia in March.

Akshar Patel: The 29-year-old all-rounder had below average performances with both bat and ball. Akshar scored 140 runs in eight matches and took only five wickets. His highest score was 56 which came against Bangladesh in December last year.

Ravindra Jadeja: The star all-rounder has played only seven matches in the 50-over format in the last 12 months. He has scored 127 runs at an average of 31.75. Apart from this, Jadeja has also taken five wickets, with his best performance being 3/37 against the West Indies. He will certainly aim for a better performance in the World Cup.

Shardul Thakur: This fast all-rounder has played 15 matches and scored only 94 runs. However, he performed well with the ball and took 22 wickets, including a four-wicket haul once and a three-wicket haul twice.

Kuldeep Yadav: The left arm wrist spinner has really impressed in the last 12 months. Kuldeep has played 16 matches and has taken 29 wickets, including two four-wicket hauls and three three-wicket hauls. His best performance of 4/6 came against the West Indies in July this year.

Mohammed Shami: The experienced fast bowler has played only eight matches in the last 12 months and has taken 10 wickets. He has also registered two three-wicket hauls, with his best performance being 3 for 17 against Australia. He will certainly strengthen India’s pace attack with his accurate yorkers.

Mohammad Siraj: Last one year has been really impressive for Mohammad Siraj, as the 29-year-old fast bowler played 15 matches and took a total of 30 wickets. Siraj has also registered the feat of taking four wickets twice and three wickets three times. His best performance of 4/32 came against Sri Lanka in January this year.

Jasprit Bumrah: India’s star fast bowler was struggling with injury for the last one year. He has played just one ODI and that too against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2023, where he did not get a chance to bowl. After battling his injury, Bumrah is all set to showcase his pace in the ODI World Cup in October.
