Sydney: India’s top shuttlers PV Sindhu, Kidambi Srikanth and HS Prannoy advanced to the quarterfinals of the Australia Open Badminton BWF Super 500 tournament. India’s rising star Priyanshu Rajawat continued his impressive run to beat Tzu Wei Wang of Chinese Taipei 21-8, 13-21, 21-19 in a hard-fought 59-minute match to enter the quarterfinals. Two other Indian players, Mithun Manjunath and Kiran George, however, suffered defeats in the men’s singles.
Manjunath, seeded fourth and world No. 7 after defeating Singapore’s Kean Yew Loh, lost 13-21, 21-12, 19-21 to Malaysia’s Ji Jia Lee. George could not mount any challenge against top seed Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia, going down in straight games 15-21, 18-21.

Prannoy will take on Gitting in the quarterfinals, while Srikanth will face young Rajawat. In women’s doubles, the Indian pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand also crashed out in the second round after going down 10-21, 20-22 to fourth seeds Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara. This tournament is the last competition before the World Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark.
