Rajkot: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Jay Shah confirmed that Rahul Dravid will remain the head coach of India till the T20 World Cup to be held in June this year. Dravid’s contract had expired after the ODI World Cup last year but he was asked to continue in the post along with his support staff till the South Africa tour in December-January without fixing the tenure. But Shah said he held talks with the former captain before deciding to retain Dravid as head coach till the T20 World Cup in West Indies and the US.
Shah said, ‘After the World Cup, Rahul Bhai had to immediately go on South Africa tour. Meanwhile, our meeting could not take place which finally became possible today.” He said, ”Why are you worried about the contract of a senior person like Rahul Dravid. He will remain the coach in the T20 World Cup also.” Shah, however, indicated that there will be a few rounds of talks between them before the T20 World Cup.
He said, ‘Whenever I get time, I will talk to him. Right now series are happening continuously. First they were in South Africa and then there was a series against Afghanistan and now we are playing against England. We did not have any conversation during this period.
