Mumbai: There were many actors in the Hindi film industry who made people crazy with their acting and the audience considered them as star actors, but in the seventies, Rajesh Khanna became the first actor to whom the audience gave the title of ‘Super Star’. Born on 29 December 1942 in Amritsar, Punjab, Jatin Khanna alias Rajesh Khanna was inclined towards films since his childhood days and he wanted to become an actor, although his father was against it.

Rajesh Khanna joined theater early in his career and later participated in the All India Talent Contest organized by the United Producers Association. In which he was selected first. Rajesh Khanna started his cine career in 1966 with Chetan Anand’s film ‘Aakhri Khat’. From 1966 to 1969, Rajesh Khanna struggled to make his place in the film industry.

Rajesh Khanna’s acting star shone in producer-director Shakti Samant’s classical film ‘Aradhana’. The Golden Jubilee success of this film, adorned with excellent songs, music and acting, established Rajesh Khanna as a ‘star’. After the success of the film ‘Aradhana’, actor Rajesh Khanna became Shakti Samant’s favorite actor. Later he gave Rajesh Khanna a chance to work in many films. These include ‘Kati Patang’, ‘Amar Prem’, ‘Anurag’, ‘Ajnabee’, ‘Anurodh’ and ‘Awaaz’ etc.

After the success of the film Aradhana, Rajesh Khanna’s image became a romantic hero. After this film, producers and directors capitalized on her romantic image in most of the films. The producers introduced him as the hero of a story. Which were films based on love affairs. Rajesh Khanna reached the peak of popularity in the seventies and got the distinction of being the first superstar of the Hindi film industry.

Though everyone was a fan of his acting but his craze was quite high especially among the teenage girls. There is an incident when Rajesh Khanna fell ill, some girls from a college in Delhi placed a bag of ice on his poster so that his fever would go down quickly. Not only this, the girls were so crazy about him that they used to write love letters to him with their blood. She was there and used to get her demands fulfilled from him only.
