Born in Bengaluru to a Maharashtrian mother, Rajinikanth’s birth name is Shivaji Rao Gaekwad, named after Chhatrapati Shivaji. Growing up in an ordinary middle-class family, Rajinikanth struggled in the early days of his life. First, he worked as a porter, did carpenter work, carried sacks of rice for money and finally, he took the exam to become a bus conductor in the Bangalore Transport Service. He also managed to win so many hearts with his acting as a bus conductor that people used to leave other buses and wait to board the bus of this young and attractive conductor. After losing his mother at the age of 9, the Sivaji actor took up theater and it was Sivaji Ganesan who attracted him towards cinema. With the help of some money from a friend, he took admission in Madras Film Institute and studied under Tamil film director K. Balachander’s eyes fell on him. After that, it seemed as if his luck changed and he never looked back.

After Apoorva Raagangal, released in 1975, Rajinikanth got some negative and positive roles in films. The late 70s and early 80s were Rajinikanth’s time.
