Rakul your film ‘I Love You’ is streaming on OTT. Who did you say I love you for the first time?

I told my parents. I remember saying I love you to my parents as soon as I learned to speak.

It is said that all is fair in love and war, so do you believe in crossing the limits of passion in love?

I think everything should have a limit. There can be madness, passion and excitement in love, but it should not become an obsession. There is a saying in English that ‘You can be crazy in love but you can’t go mad.’ There should be a fine line. Love should be constructive, not destructive.

If I talk about teenage, girls generally self-doubt at this age. Have you been through this experience?

I would not say self-doubt, but I have definitely gone through an awkward situation regarding myself. You have an age before teenage, when you are a very cute child, but then there comes an age when you do not know how your teeth will come? I had two protruding teeth, so I used to feel very awkward, but my parents were always aware of this, so they got me dental treatment done and got my braces installed. In seventh-eighth when you want to look good, I had braces on my teeth. But thankfully he left in tenth. At that time all these things were very important for you, but today when I think about those things, I laugh.

Rejection is common in the entertainment world. What kind of rejections have you had to go through?

I have also been rejected many times. In Telugu, I got rejected from three films and in Hindi too, before Yaariyan, I went through many auditions and faced rejections. There were two-three such films in Hindi too, when I got shortlisted. Was very close to getting the film, but things didn’t work out. You know that I was finalized for Dhoni as well, but due to dates problem, I could not do that. Later I did Aiyaary with Neeraj Pandey, so it is part of the profession. Every artist has to go through this. I never let that negativity of rejection weigh me down and kept moving forward.

Why did you move to South after giving 100 crore films like ‘Yaariyan’ in Bollywood?

Let me tell you that I did my first South film when I was doing modelling. Till then I did not even know whether I would work in films or not? But they said that we have seen her date of birth and she will become a big star one day. At that time I did this film just for pocket money. Then I used to get 2-2.5 thousand as pocket money. I thought, friend, I will get five lakhs, I will take my car. I will be the first girl among my friends to buy a car. After facing the camera, it was decided that I would like to act in future, but it was also decided that I would do acting after completing college. When that film released, I was in my second year of college and after that film, I started getting calls. But I was doing maths honors and my attendance was short, so I kept rejecting offers.

I used to tell them, ‘I am doing maths honors, there is no time to do films. At that time, I did not know that such work does not happen. After my graduation, I looked for offers and I signed a film, which came in November and then Yaariyan came in January, but by then my South film had already started and I started taking offers there. I got busy there. I thought I would be called when I would get work in Mumbai. I didn’t know then that it was necessary to live in Mumbai to work in Bollywood films. I was only twenty years old at that time, there was no one to tell me. But in South I worked with all the big stars like Mahesh Babu, Allu Arjun, Ram Charan. Then I started getting offers for Hindi films as well, but when two-three Hindi films came out of my hands, then I decided to shift here completely.

You started your career with Yaariyaan, but now roles are being written for you, so has the situation of actresses changed after the advent of OTT, be it pay parity or roles or the issue of speaking up? Is?

I think it is not just about OTT, overall there has been a change in the status of actresses. Today we all are passing through very good times. Tabu Ma’am, Bhumi, Taapsee, Shefali Shah all the actresses are getting amazing roles. All of them are going through their best phase. Audiences are also adopting them in different roles. Take Neena Gupta ji or Dimple Mam only. There has been a re-invention of all these actresses. It is undoubtedly a very beautiful time for all the actresses.
