Rajkot: KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja have been included in the squad for the final three Tests against England, having recovered from quadriceps and hamstring injuries, while Virat Kohli is out due to family reasons.
The return of Rahul and Jadeja has added much-needed experience to the team, which will boost India’s campaign against a determined English team. However, his participation is subject to clearance from the medical team, underscoring the cautious approach taken by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) regarding the player’s fitness.
While the inclusion of Rahul and Jadeja brings a sense of stability, the absence of key players is weighing heavily on the Indian camp. Mohammed Shami’s continued absence due to an ankle injury has left a void in the fast bowling department, while the unavailability of Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer further complicates the team composition.
Kohli’s absence due to a family emergency deprives India of his batting prowess, increasing the challenges for skipper Rohit Sharma.
Meanwhile, Iyer’s withdrawal due to back strain has opened the way for Rajat Patidar and Sarfaraz Khan to stake their claim in the middle order.
To strengthen the bowling attack, Mohammed Siraj has returned to the side after being rested for the second Test, while Akash Deep has been replaced by Avesh Khan to provide additional firepower.
The third Test of the series will start from February 15 in Rajkot. The series is currently tied at 1-1.
