The all-rounder is set to make a comeback in the upcoming Border-Gavaskar series against Australia after nearly five months recovering from knee surgery. Ravindra Jadeja feels he is lucky to get a chance to don the Indian team jersey again after a career-threatening injury. Due to this injury, Jadeja was ruled out of the T20 World Cup played in Australia last year. Before the World Cup, he had to undergo knee surgery, which kept him out of action for five months.
Feels good wearing Team India jersey: Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja In an interview to ‘bcci.tv’, I am very excited and happy that after almost five months I have got a chance to wear the Indian jersey again. I am blessed that I have been given a chance again and the journey to reach here has been full of ups and downs. If you are not playing cricket for five months, it becomes very depressing. I was eagerly waiting to get fit as soon as possible so that I can play for India.
It was a difficult decision to undergo surgery: Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja Said that whether to undergo surgery before or after the World Cup was a difficult decision for him personally, but in the end he followed the doctor’s advice. He said, I had a knee problem and I had to undergo surgery sooner or later. But I had to decide whether it would happen before or after the World Cup. Doctors also advised me to do it before the World Cup. My chances of playing in the World Cup were slim anyway. So I made up my mind and got the surgery done.
Jadeja told the story of rehab after surgery
This left-arm bowling all-rounder said, the period after that (surgery) was very difficult because you have to do constant rehab (process of recovery from injury) and training. When I used to watch the match on television, I used to regret not playing because of injury in my mind. When I was watching the World Cup, I wished I could be there too. The physio and trainer of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) worked hard on my knee. He used to come for my treatment even after the NCA was closed on Sundays. The two months after the injury were particularly difficult because I couldn’t move, I couldn’t even walk properly, he said. It was a very crucial time and my family and friends stood by me. The NCA coaches also boosted my confidence.
Jadeja returns from Ranji Trophy
Last month, Jadeja made a successful comeback to the game representing Saurashtra in a Ranji Trophy match against Tamil Nadu in Chennai. He said, I felt a bit strange because I had not been in the sun for five months. I was doing indoor training so when I went to the ground, I was wondering if my body can sustain. He said, the first day was very difficult and we all know about the heat of Chennai. Then my body adapted to the situation and I was feeling good and fit. Australia’s tour of India will start from February 9 with the first Test match in Nagpur.
