There is a soul in this country which no one can kill, and this living soul is the true Hindustan, these thoughts were expressed by Padma Bhushan Javed Akhtar on this occasion.

Lyricist and dialogue writer Javed Akhtar was today interviewed by director Jaiprad Desai at the 9th Ajanta Ellora International Film Festival, which brings the best of films to audiences across the world. Lyricist Javed Akhtar was speaking on the occasion.

On this occasion, Javed Akhtar said, in the films of the sixties, taxi drivers, rickshaw pullers, laborers, teachers, professors, lawyers were heroes. However, now the picture has completely changed. Today’s actors are from rich families and do nothing. Today’s actor is thinking of Switzerland instead of India. This is the time to make films for the rich. Political themes are not visible in our films. Similarly, social issues are no longer visible in our films, the working class has disappeared from today’s films.

This shows that we have become selfish and on the other hand we care a lot about the country. Didn’t people love this country fifty years ago? Didn’t the people who went to jail for the country in the first place love this country? He loved the country, but there were not so many dramas in those days. Now people are going wherever they want.

Akhtar further said that ‘Article 15’ is one of the best films made in the last 30-40 years. It is a matter of pleasure that this film is being screened in this Ajanta Ellora International Film Festival and everyone should watch this film. Such films were not made in the sixties.

Economics is behind everything that happens in this world. We are told that India is a prosperous country and has made a lot of progress. And along with this we have also been told that 80 crore citizens of this country have to be given 5 kg of food grains. Javed Akhtar asked the audience what kind of progress is this?
Akhtar said, language always remains with us. Our culture is reflected in the language. This means that when we leave the language, we leave our roots. Language was for talking to each other but today the time has come to stop talking because of language.

I went to Ellora for the first time today. I was so overwhelmed by all this splendor. Today I wondered why I had not come yet. The people who did this work would not have done it for money. It takes a lot of belief in something to make it happen. Especially this work is done with stubbornness, if we have even one thousandth part of that stubbornness then we can make this country a heaven. Generations of people have worked for it and it has been built with love, tradition, culture and commitment. Javed Akhtar said that I will come again and want to see the beauty of Ajanta.
