If the government pays attention, then our regional cinema can also perform well on a large scale. Right now it is a big challenge for us to get the screen to release the film. Khesari Lal Yadav says, ‘The cinema halls themselves decide which film will run and which will not. When big budget movies of South, Bollywood and Hollywood come on cinema, they get more importance and our films are removed or their shows are reduced a lot. I think everyone has money, if we get good facilities, if we get good theatres, if people get good seats, then we can do something. We can also make big budget films of 50 or 100 crores, but we do not get support. We are still making good films but we need theaters to sell them. On the other hand, actor and filmmaker Sandeep Baswan says that today’s era is of good content. He says, ‘If the regional film has guts and the promotion is good, then theaters give screens. Yashpal Sharma says, ‘I agree that in today’s era, the biggest challenge is to take the audience to the cinema. People are not coming out of OTT. People get the cinema of the whole world on OTT, so how will anyone come to the hall to watch a regional film? If there is something special in the film then only someone will come to watch the film. Now the era of average is no more, you just have to give the best. I think even 1 percent people of Haryana have not seen the film Dada Lakhmi. Somewhere people wait for the films to come on OTT and social media and because of this they do not come to watch the film in the cinema. Whatever little effort is left, it is fulfilled by piracy. Whereas Khesari Lal Yadav says, ‘We are definitely getting the benefit of OTT because we are making the same quality content that we make for cinema.’ According to Sandeep Baswan, ‘Nowadays, if cinema is not available, OTT is the only option left with regional films, but even there you do not get the platform as soon as you go. Those people also ask for good content from you. If the content is not good, then you will have to sell the film to any local OTT platform at the regional level on their own wish. Pramod Kumar, director of the film Fauja, based on the backdrop of Haryana, says, ‘There is no doubt that it is very difficult to release a regional film in the cinema hall.
