Remake of Rajesh Khanna and Jaya Bachchan’s ‘Bawarchi’ will be made, Anushree Mehta will direct the film.

Filmmaker Anushree Mehta, best known for directing the Radhika Apte-starrer Mrs. Undercover, will now direct the Hindi remake of the much-loved 1972 classic Bawarchi, which was originally directed by the iconic Hrishikesh Mukherjee.
Directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, the film will be the first of a three-film collaboration between Jadugar Films and Sameer Raj Sippy Productions. They will also remake evergreen classics like Amitabh Bachchan-Jaya Bachchan starrer ‘Milli’ (1975) and Gulzar’s iconic 1972 drama ‘Koshish’. Anushree described directing Baawarchi Parvanjan as a ‘kaleidoscopic combination’ of being excited, respectful, humble as well as being aware of carrying a ‘huge responsibility’.
IANS quoted the director as saying When my business partners Abir Sengupta (Jaadugar Films), Sameer Raj Sippy and I decided to join hands to produce these three iconic films, we were clear that we would leave no stone unturned in remaking them with utmost love and respect. Will leave. During our discussion on Bawarchi, Abir and Sameer were of the opinion that I should write and direct the remake.
The director said, “He was confident that I would be able to tell the story in a way that would make him proud. We were in sync with our vision and I wholeheartedly agreed to come on board as writer-director.” The OG family comedy drama featured an ensemble cast including actors Rajesh Khanna, Jaya Bachchan and Asrani. Bawarchi was a remake of Tapan Sinha’s 1966 Bengali film Galpo Holeo Satti starring Rabi Ghosh.
Talking about keeping the soul of the OG film intact, he further added, “The idea of retelling a film is to adapt it to the current times and make it more relevant to the world we live in today. is – keeping the spirit and intent of the original intact. Since Bawarchi itself was a remake of a Bengali film, Hrisida recreated it in his time and made it belong to that era.” The film will go on floors in 2024. Casting of the film is also going on.
