The city is home to more than 20,000 government employees (employees of the central government), which is a good news. UT Administrator Banwarilal Purohit has notified the Central Service Rules applicable in Chandigarh.
According to the information, after the release of this notification, now the retirement age (Central Government Employee Retirement Age) will be 60 years. Along with the pay scale and DA center employees, teachers will get traveling allowance up to about Rs 4000 per month. Schools will now have the post of Vice Principal, appointment will be on the basis of seniority. Women employees will get child care leave for two years. Parents of two children up to class-12 will get education allowance.
This notification will also change the pay scales and service conditions of UT employees. The notification specifies the pay tables for the various grades drawn up. Since the Ministry of Home Affairs notified the Chandigarh Employees (Conditions of Service) Rules, 2022 on March 29 last year and the Punjab Service Rules were replaced by the Central Service Rules with effect from April 1, 2022, as per the notification the employee would be entitled to arrears .
Not only this, with the adoption of Central Service Rules, the retirement age has also been increased from 58 years to 60 years from 2022.
With the coming into force of the Central Service Rules, the pay scales of the employees will be in line with the Central Government Rules, which were at present in line with the respective categories of Punjab Government employees. Now these will be similar to the conditions of service of persons appointed to the respective services and posts in the Central Civil Services of the President and will be governed by the same rules and orders.
These rules will not apply to members of All India Services working in the affairs of the Union Territory of Chandigarh, employees of the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, persons not in full time employment of UT Chandigarh, persons paid by contingencies.

Significantly, about 14 days after the formation of the AAP government in Punjab, Home Minister Amit Shah had announced the implementation of Central Service Rules in Chandigarh by the Central Government. However, it was fiercely opposed in Punjab. In the Lok Sabha, many MPs from Punjab had demanded not to issue the notification.
