Mumbai . Bollywood actress Richa Chadha is all set for her upcoming streaming series ‘Hiramandi The Diamond Bazaar’. He said that for its preparation he took inspiration from famous actress Meena Kumari.

Richa is playing the role of prostitute Lajjo in the series. He said that he took inspiration from Meena Kumari’s character Shahibazaan in the evergreen classic ‘Pakeezah’. He studied the character of Meena Kumari drawing parallels between Sahibjaan and Lajjo.

Talking about her preparation for the character, Richa said, “Before shooting for the series ‘Hiramandi’, carefully watching and learning from the character of Meena Kumari ji in ‘Pakeezah’ was really rich and deep for me. It was a changing experience. Meena Kumari’s character in ‘Pakeezah’ has a tragic depth and complexity which matches the character Lajjo I play in the show. While studying Meena ji’s work, I worked on my voice and pronunciation, sometimes to the extent of copying.

She said, “I felt as if I was following in the footsteps of a cinematic legend and it was an honor to pay tribute to Meena Kumari ji through the character of Lajjo.”

‘Hiramandi – The Diamond Bazaar’ is the first web series of writer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, which throws light on the world of prostitutes.

This series will be released on Netflix on May 1.
