On 4 January, Pant was airlifted to Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Andheri West, Mumbai for right knee surgery and further treatment for multiple injuries. Since April, Pant has been undergoing rehabilitation at the NCA, where he has started walking without crutches and climbing stairs without any support. Sharma said it was heartening to see Pant making progress in his recovery at the NCA by climbing stairs and walking on clay as well as grass.
Sharma said, ‘His ongoing rehabilitation at NCA is going very well. He is also doing a lot of exercise. I was at NCA for about half an hour. All exercises related to walking, climbing stairs are being done to him and he is also walking on mud or grass. At the NCA, physios S Rajinikanth and Tulsi Ram are believed to be working on Yuvraj Pant’s rehab. Apart from Sharma, DDCA director Harish Singla was also there to meet the left-handed batsman at the NCA.
Sharma said- Experts in NCA are taking care of him. He was making good progress when I was at NCA. He looked fit and fine mentally. I can tell the lion is getting ready to roar back.’ Pant, who made his international debut in February 2017, was last seen in action when India secured a 2-0 Test series win over Bangladesh in December 2022. In the second Test, which ended on 25 December, he scored a match-winning 93 in India’s first innings at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
