RRR, Kantara, Sita Ramam, KGF: Chapter 2 create buzz at SIIMA

New Delhi. The South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) has come to an end. In this, ‘RRR’, ‘Sita Ramam’, ‘777 Charlie’, ‘Kantara’ and ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ have created a stir.

The awards show ran from 15-16 September in Dubai, with the first night announcing the winners in the Telugu and Kannada categories and the second night announcing the winners in the Tamil and Malayalam categories.

SIIMA provides a platform to honor the artistry as well as gain international exposure for South Indian cinema in all four languages: Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.

South cinema began to make inroads in international markets such as Japan, South Korea, China, Russia, Indonesia and Turkey, largely due to the allure of superstar Rajinikanth in the early 90s.

In 2015, director SS. Rajamouli made some major strides with the Telugu epic franchise ‘Baahubali’. Then, in 2022, ‘RRR’ caught everyone’s attention.

The biggest awards went to the films ‘Sita Ramam’, ‘RRR’, ‘Kantara’, ‘Major’, ‘777 Charlie’ and ‘KGF: Chapter 2’.

In the Telugu category, the biggest competition was between ‘RRR’ and ‘Seetha Ramam’, with ‘Seetha Ramam’ winning the award in the ‘Best Film’ category. ‘RRR’ won the ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Actor’ awards.

‘RRR’ led the Telugu race with more than 11 nominations, while ‘Seetha Ramam’ gave a tough competition with more than 10 nominations.

This was followed by ‘DJ Tillu’ with more than eight awards, ‘Major’ with six, ‘Kartikeya 2’, ‘Bheemla Nayak’ and ‘Dhamaka’ with five, ‘Sarkaru Vaari Paata’ with four, ‘Bimbisaar’ and ‘Ashoka Vanamalo Arjun Kalyanam’, ‘Yashoda’ with three, ‘Hit: The Second Case’, ‘Virata Parvam’ and ‘Masuda’ with two awards came next.

In the Kannada category, ‘KGF: Chapter 2’ along with ‘Kantara’ led the race with 11 nominations.
