RRR Director SS Rajamouli is in the US for the Oscars and is busy attending various events before March 12. He has now given an interview to foreign media where the director has talked about the nationalist flavor for which RRR was criticized. Rajamouli said that he grew up in a very religious family but was an atheist and believed that religion was essentially exploitation.

The Baahubali director said, I am opposed to any extreme point of view. I do not have any hidden agenda. I make films for people who are ready to shell out their hard earned money for movie tickets. I like this. Entertain them, make them feel dramatic about the characters, about the situations, have a good time, go back and live your life.

When I go to see a movie, I want to see larger-than-life characters, larger-than-life situations, larger-than-life drama. And that’s what I love to create, he explained.

Rajamouli said he hoped Naatu Naatu would win the Oscar for Best Original Song and added, “We are breaking ground, but I think we are in the very, very early, early stages.” If you look at (South) Korea, for example, the kind of inroads they have made. We (all Indian filmmakers) should aspire to do the same.

RRR is a period drama featuring Jr NTR and Ram Charan as tribal leader Komaram Bheem and revolutionary Alluri Sita Rama Raju, respectively. The fictional saga, set in pre-independence India, explores their friendship and highlights their fight against oppression. Its cast includes Alia Bhatt, Ajay Devgan, Samuthirakani and Ray Stevenson. It released across the cinema halls on March 25, 2022 and went on to do a business of around Rs 1,200 crore worldwide.
