Rupinder Pal Singh organizes camp for Indian female drag-flickers

Bengaluru. With just a few weeks left for the Women’s Olympic Qualifiers, renowned drag-flicker Rupinder Pal Singh conducted a camp for Indian drag-flickers, and gave them tips ahead of the crucial clash in Ranchi from January 13-19.

Rupinder Pal Singh is currently in SAI Bengaluru to conduct a 5-day drag flicking camp for the Indian women’s hockey team. The camp, which begins on December 27, will see Rupinder Pal assisting the drag-flickers of the Indian women’s hockey team, including Deepika and Gurjit Kaur, ahead of the crucial FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier Ranchi 2024.

India have been placed in Pool B along with New Zealand, Italy and the United States at the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers. Meanwhile, Pool A comprises Germany, Japan, Chile and Czech Republic.

Speaking about her ongoing season, veteran Indian player Gurjeet Kaur said, “The 5-day drag flicking camp at SAI Bengaluru has proved to be a valuable experience for us. We are learning new things every day and trying to improve our game by focusing on specific aspects that need improvement.

He said, “Rupinder has been instrumental in guiding us and the overall experience has been one of focused intensity. As we prepare for the upcoming tournaments, we are confident that the lessons learned here will contribute significantly to our performance on the field. ” ,

Echoing Gurjeet’s sentiments, young forward Deepika said that Rupinder’s experience as a drag-flicker has been invaluable to her.

“He shared his insight on the first rushers in today’s game, how they have become fearless and catch the ball faster than before. To counter this he advised us to lift the ball faster.

Deepika commented, “We also put his mind on how to beat the runner running first, deciding what line the runner should follow, where to stop the ball, what angle to take the shot from And how to deal with foul balls. This camp will help us strengthen our penalty corners and give us a better chance to score at the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifiers Ranchi 2024.”

Rupinder Pal Singh had scored 234 goals in 223 matches for the Indian men’s hockey team before his retirement in 2021. The huge fullback was also an integral part of the team that won the bronze medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

“Gurjeet and Deepika are exceptional players and drag-flickers. She immediately understands and implements my suggestions. This crash course will be a great way to hone your skills before traveling to Ranchi to participate in the FIH Hockey Olympic Qualifier Ranchi 2024.

“It seems like the entire team is giving their all to qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics, and I am sure they will do well in Ranchi,” the top drag-flicker said at the ongoing camp.
