Samsung employees agree on 5.1 percent increase in salary

The world’s largest memory chip and smartphone maker has reached an agreement with its employee representatives to increase wages and maternity leave, Yonhap news agency reports.
This year’s 5.1 percent salary increase is more than last year’s 4.1 percent salary increase.
Samsung Electronics said it has decided to increase salaries by about 5 percent to boost employee morale despite global uncertainty.
At the same time, about 4 percent of the total 110,000 workers have called for a 6.5 percent wage hike and have been negotiating with the management since the end of last year.
