Akshay Kumar, who has faced continuous failure last year, has once again come in front of the audience through selfie. Selfies have satisfied the audience to a great extent. Selfie hits theaters Friday, February 24. It has created a good buzz among the audience as it is Akshay Kumar’s first film with Emraan Hashmi.
Selfie is a remake of the Malayalam film Driving License starring Prithviraj Sukumar. It revolves around the conflict between a superstar and an RTO inspector. The soundtrack of Selfie has become a hit among Akshay’s fans as it features the remake version of his cult song Main Khiladi Tu Anari. The song Kudiye Ni Teri is also being liked. The cast includes Diana Penty, Nushrat Bharucha and Mahesh Thakur.
Selfie is expected to take a respectable but slow opening at the box office. The business on the first day will be around 6 crores, this is according to the number of viewers coming in its advance and first opening shows and later. However, an increase in viewership is possible in the evening and night hours as it has been appreciated by the audience in the initial shows. The film is expected to pick up momentum on Saturday and Sunday.
Selfie is successful or unsuccessful, it will be known in the coming days. Meanwhile, let’s take a look at the box office performance of the last five films of Akshay Kumar which were complete flops.
Ram Setu (2022)
The adventure drama collected Rs 15 crore at the domestic box office on its first day and received mixed reviews from critics. The film later failed to show any major growth as it did not live up to the expectations of the audience. Ram Setu collected Rs 71.87 crore during its full run. It is considered a commercial failure as it was shot on a budget of Rs 150 crore.
Raksha Bandhan (2022)
Raksha Bandhan failed to make an impact at the box office. It was screened alongside Aamir Khan’s Laal Singh Chaddha. The Aanand L Rai directorial emotional drama, which was shot on a budget of Rs 70 crore, earned Rs 44.39 crore during its entire run.
Emperor Prithviraj (2022)
Samrat Prithviraj was touted to be a potential game-changer for Akshay Kumar as it was his first historical film. However, things did not work out. Samrat Prithviraj did a business of only Rs 10.70 crore on the first day and received rave critical reviews. It turned out to be a complete failure in its first weekend. Samrat Prithviraj collected life time only 68 crore rupees. Chandraprakash Dwivedi’s magnum opus is counted among the biggest failures of 2022 as it was reportedly shot on a whopping budget of Rs 300 crore.
Bachchan Pandey (2022)
The Farhad Samji-directed action comedy collected Rs 13.25 crore on Day 1. It saw virtually no growth over the weekend, which sealed its fate. Akshay Kumar played a gangster with a heart-wrenching past in Bachchan Pandey, an adaptation of the cult Tamil film, Jigarthanda.
Sooryavanshi (2021)
Directed by Rohit Shetty, the film earned Rs 26.29 crore on its opening day and received mixed reviews. The film saw decent growth over the weekend as it got the benefit of Diwali holiday.
