Seriously ill actress Silvina Luna dies at 43 due to surgery

Los Angeles. Argentine actress and former model Silvina Luna has died at the age of 43. She underwent buttock augmentation surgery in 2011, as a result of which she was hospitalized for 79 days due to kidney complications.

Silvina passed away on Thursday, 31 August, reports mirror.co.uk. She was hospitalized for 79 days at the Hospital Italiano, where she was being treated for complications resulting from 2011 surgery.

According to local media, her brother Ezequiel Luna gave doctors the nod to take her off the ventilator on Thursday afternoon. Silvina’s lawyer, Fernando Berlando, said the tragic loss was “an ending that hurts”.

He hopes that his fight will wake up the authorities, so that society will take note and there will be no further deaths. The actress’ surgery took place around June or July 2011 and was performed by cosmetic surgeon Anibal Lotocki.

Dr. Lotocki is also accused of causing death in 2021 of a patient he operated on in 2010. He had injected Silvina with a liquid containing polymethylmethacrylate, which is banned by Argentina’s National Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology.

Silvina needed treatment for the first time in 2015 when she was treated for kidney stones. He was put on weekly dialysis until a kidney transplant became available.

He traveled to Miami in 2016, where he met with Argentinian doctor Criciton Pérez, who removed the dangerous substance from his buttocks. Speaking to C5N television, he explained: “Silvina developed an autoimmune disease caused by the drugs as a result of her surgery. All patients have severe kidney failure and die.”

While waiting for a new kidney, Silvina’s condition deteriorated and she was admitted to the hospital on June 13 this year. He was kept unconscious for almost two weeks till 29 June. After this he was removed from the ventilator.

The hospital released a statement that on 19 August Silvina was “breathing on her own with kinesiological, nutritional and psychological rehabilitation”. But in recent days she got infected with a bacteria and died on 31 August.

The Buenos Aires Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation into Silvina’s death.

In February 2022, Dr. Lotocki was sentenced to four years in prison in a medical malpractice lawsuit brought by Silvina and three other women. In July a court banned him from practicing medicine for five years.

However, the surgeon is now walking free as the National Chamber of Criminal Appeals reviews his sentence.
