The WFI elections were held on December 21 in which former president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh’s confidant Sanjay Singh and his panel won by a huge margin. The country’s top wrestlers, including Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik, had protested accusing Brij Bhushan of sexually harassing female wrestlers.
Bajrang had returned his Padmashree award to the government on Friday after Brij Bhushan’s close aide Sanjay Singh was elected to the post of president in the WFI elections. Earlier on Thursday, Sakshi Malik had announced her retirement from wrestling for the same reason.
