Shooter Anuradha Devi wins silver medal in ISSF World Cup debut

New Delhi. Debutant shooter Anuradha Devi won the silver medal in the women’s 10m air pistol event, defeating Rio Olympic champion Anna Korakakki at the ongoing ISSF World Cup in Cairo, Egypt. Anuradha (33 years) made it to the finals from the eighth and last qualifying position. He finished second in the Swapnil final on Friday.
Anuradha’s feat gave India its first (first of six) medal at the ISSF World Cup stage of the Olympic year. Earlier, Sagar Dungi had also reached the final of men’s 10 meter air pistol event but he finished sixth. Paris Olympics quota clincher Rhythm Sangwan also reached the women’s final but finished fourth. Anuradha qualified for the finals with 575 marks. In the final, she defeated Irina Yunusmetova of Kazakhstan and secured second place. Anuradha finished 1.2 points behind Korakakki with a score of 239.9.
Among other Indians, Manu Bhaker finished 15th in the women’s pistol event. Ujjwal Malik and Ravinder Singh also remained outside the top eight. In the men’s trap event, Zorawar Sandhu is the best placed Indian with a score of 70 in three rounds. In the women’s trap event, Rajeshwari Kumari is in 19th place with a score of 64.
