New Delhi: Indian cricket team’s star opener batsman Shubman Gill has been selected as the ICC Male Player of the Month for January for his consistent innings in the ODI format. Apart from this, England Under-19 captain Grace Scrivens became the youngest player to receive this honor in the women’s section. Gill broke records in limited overs cricket in January. He scored a lot of runs in ODIs against both Sri Lanka and New Zealand.

Gill, 23, scored three 100-plus scores in January and added 567 runs during this period. He scored a double century in the first match of the series against New Zealand at Hyderabad. He scored 208 runs in just 149 balls with the help of 28 boundaries and during this time became the youngest player to score a double century in ODI format. He also scored 116 against Sri Lanka and 112 against New Zealand in the final ODI.

Gill beat New Zealand opener Devon Conway and compatriot Mohammad Siraj in the global poll to win the ICC Player of the Month award for the first time. With this, he also became the first Indian to win this award after Virat Kohli in October 2022. “January has been a special month for me and winning this award has made it even more memorable,” Gill said in an ICC release. It’s always good to be recognized for a performance and these innings will give me a lot of confidence, especially ahead of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at home.

Grace won the women’s category award thanks to her impressive performance in the first Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Under his leadership, the team made it to the finals where they lost against defending champions India.

The 19-year-old Grace, on the other hand, scored 293 runs in seven innings at an average of 41.85 including three consecutive half-centuries against Rwanda, Ireland and the West Indies. He also did wonders in bowling, taking nine wickets at an average of 7.11. Grace beat Australia’s Phoebe Litchfield and Beth Mooney in the race for the award.
