Shweta Kawatra’s depression after pregnancy
Shweta Kawatra also has a certification in personal training. She has experience in Adoptive Parenting and Emotional Behavior Therapy (REBT). Talking about her plans to pursue MA in her subject, she says, “Earlier I did not even know the difference between a counsellor, a psychologist and a psychiatrist but now I am better prepared. Counseling is a huge responsibility as you are dealing with the human mind. If a counselor is not full of right education and experience, he will make the patient worse than before. Hence, I have chosen the traditional route. I have officially started doing parenting course in 2020.
Shweta has gone through depression
Shweta describes herself as a depression survivor, an experience that inspired her to explore mental health and work around it. She says, “After experiencing post-pregnancy depression, I no longer look at life as casually as before. Most use the word ‘depression’ differently. It’s real. It is a chemical change in our body and not just a low feeling or something that stems from boredom. This can have far reaching consequences. I suffered for five years. While my husband (actor Manav Gohil) and family were supportive during this time, it was difficult for them to understand what I was going through. I wanted to help others with the right things, so studying to understand the disease became the next step.
No need to suppress mental health.
She does not recommend suppressing mental health issues. Shweta further added, ‘In my capacity I volunteer to address personal concerns. I listen to their struggles and help them in a right way. If I see red flags, I refer them to a psychologist or psychiatrist.
