Mumbai Noted Pakistani singer Rahat Fateh Ali Khan paid tribute to late Punjabi singer Sidhu Musewala on his first death anniversary. During one of his concerts in the US, Khan remembered Musewala by dedicating the popular qawwali “Akhiyan Udeek Diyan”.
Videos of the event are doing the rounds on social media. Khan is known for crooning hit Bollywood songs like “Mann Ki Lagan”, “Jiya Dhadak Dhadak”, “Bol Na Halke Halke” and “Dagabaaz Re”. Sidhu Moosewala’s real name is Shubhdeep Singh was He was shot dead on May 29 last year in Punjab’s Mansa district.
Known as a singer and rapper, Musewala’s songs like “So High”, “The Last Ride”, “Just Listen” and “295” are popular in India as well as abroad.
A candle march was taken out in Mansa on Monday in memory of Moosewala and prayers were offered at a gurudwara in Jawahar’s village. In Musa, the late singer’s village, his fans and supporters took out a candle march and demanded “justice” for him. Moosewala’s mother Charankaur also participated in this march.
