The sequel of Hindi cinema’s memorable film Ghadar is going to hit the theaters on August 11. Actress Simrat Kaur is making her debut in the Hindi film industry with this film. In conversation with Urmila Kori on her association, experience and controversy with this film…

How has this film reached you?

I have reached this film after giving a lot of auditions. Mukesh Chhabra ji is one of the biggest casting directors of Bollywood. I got this audition from his side. When the audition came, I didn’t know it was for Ghadar 2. It was suspenseful for me. I made and sent the audition video, then I was told that the next day you have to go to Palampur. My look test was to happen there because the shooting of the film had started there. I went there and gave the audition. There was no response for me there either. I gave the audition and came back to Mumbai. Even after 20 days of coming to Mumbai, I did not get any reply. Neither good nor bad nothing. After going to Palampur, I came to know that I am auditioning for Ghadar 2, but I thought I was playing a side character. I didn’t know that there was a character opposite Utkarsh. Even after coming to Mumbai, my bus audition was going on for two to three months. While giving auditions, one day I came to know that these people are also looking at other girls, after which my heart became small. That day I told director Anil sir that sir I have given so many auditions. Where am I going wrong, that my selection is not happening. That day Sir ordered and fed sweets and said that you have been selected. He told me that I had selected you in Palampur itself, but I wanted to see whether you have that much patience or not. To be honest, even after he said yes, it took me three days to believe that I have been selected for the film. When I was convinced, I cried a lot.

How was your first day on set?

Sitting in the vanity van, I was very happy that I have a vanity. I have staff. My first day of shooting was in Lucknow. I had a shoot in April. At that time the heat was beyond 45 degrees. My condition was bad. The first day was just my close-up. Not too many scenes were kept. Anil sir had his own way of making the actor comfortable. The other day I had a full emotional dialogue scene. I was a little nervous that day. There was a new girl, so everyone was looking at me carefully. I had my shot before pack up. It was a very important shot of the film. Everyone is looking at me only. There was complete silence on the set. I was getting nervous, then felt that I have to do it, took a deep breath and did that scene, when everyone clapped. Everyone said that our casting is right. From that day onwards, I got a different confidence on the set.

How would you describe your experience with Sunny Deol?

When I met him for the first time, his scene was going on. I saw him for the first time at that time. I had never seen him before that. Saw him from a distance as very fair. His personality is different. Anil sir said to me, go say hello to him and come. Your senior. I said I am scared. I went, I did his sashrikal. He also answered very well. A few days later there was a scene with him. Got nervous once again. I was not able to perform the scene well. Three to four retakes were done, then Sunny sir told me one thing that you should feel the emotion from your heart. It will again come on your face. After that you will not have to act. You have been doing character for so long. Some emotion must have been connected to it, so feel it. After that my scene became OK. I will always remember this talk of Sunny Sir.

Do you remember anything related to Gadar Van?

Very special, when Gadar One was being shot at Amritsar Railway Station, my mother had gone there to watch the shooting. He picked me up in his arms. I was a year old. (Laughs) I told everyone that Gadar people were waiting when this girl would grow up and we would start shooting for Gadar 2. Ghadar 2 has gone on floors late because of me.

How ready are you to be compared to Ameesha Patel?

It is a good thing that I am being compared to such a big actress. She is my senior. He is in the industry many years before me. This is his first position in this film. I’m just getting started. If I make a point first, then it will be right if I am compared.

Utkarsh is opposite you in the film, how supportive was he?

He is a very good coactor. I can’t find a better coactor than him. Usually people do not share their experiences and learnings with you, but he shared everything with me. He has learned acting. He also has experience. The way you talk, you take pause. He told me that too. I had to speak a few dialogues in Urdu in the film. Utkarsh filled my mouth with water and gave me a class so that I could speak perfect Urdu.

How did the acting career start?

Never thought of acting. I was always sports players. I am karate black belt. I have played championship. Am gold medalist. The first call I got was for the Cadbury poster ad. It’s about 2017. Came after seeing the photos of my Instagram. I thought they must be some fake people. He said that we need a fresh college look face. I thought let’s do it for pocket money. These people will only take my photo. After that my number spread a lot in the industry. I got my first offer from South. I didn’t have much interest even while doing my first film. My parents wanted me to pursue a career in acting. I was not ready to go for Hyderabad audition. My mother took me. Mummy managed everything. I have seen many ups and downs in my career now. Two years have also passed in Kovid. Mummy again supported that you keep trying, but don’t put pressure on yourself. My father was in Navy. Just retired. We had a book business, but at the moment I have spoken to my parents. You Relax. I will work

In the past, your intimate scenes from a film went viral, what do you have to say on that controversy?

I have started. I had not seen this world. I am human, mistakes happen. We only learn from mistakes.
