Snake venom case: Complainants allege, Elvish Yadav ‘threatened to kill’, sought protection from police

The complainant in the snake venom case involving YouTuber Elvish Yadav has moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking police protection after two animal rights activists allegedly issued ‘death threats’ to him.

In their petition, brothers Saurabh and Gaurav Gupta claimed that they received ‘threatening calls’ and were pressurized to withdraw their complaint. Gupta, a resident of Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, has also mentioned in his petition that he is a member of Union Minister Maneka Gandhi’s People’s for Animals (PFA) organisation.

“We recorded Yadav’s video and filed an FIR against him for using snake venom as a drug in rave parties,” he said, referring to the case of November last year. Hearing the case, the bench of Justice Jasjit Singh Bedi issued notice to the Haryana government and fixed April 18 as the next date of hearing.

Yadav, who recently sparked a fresh controversy after having a ‘feud’ with fellow YouTuber Sagar Thakur, popularly known as ‘Maxturn’, was arrested in the snake venom case on March 17. Was. He has been booked under the Wildlife Protection Act, Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPC) Act, and Indian Penal Code (IPC) sections 284 (negligent conduct in relation to poison endangering safety) and 289 (negligent conduct in relation to animals). The police had recovered nine snakes protected under Schedule 1 of the Wildlife Protection Act – five cobras, a python, two sand snakes and a rat snake – and a small 20 ml tube of the suspected snake.
