In the women’s 100m race, Somalia’s athlete took 21 seconds to complete the 100m race. Angered by this, Somalia’s sports minister took action and suspended the president of his country’s athletics federation.
The World University Games are being organized in China. Somalia had to face embarrassment in these games. In fact, in the women’s 100 meter race, Somalia’s athlete took 21 seconds to complete the 100 meter race. Let us tell you that in 100 meter sprint, an athlete takes maximum time of 9, 10 or 11 seconds. But this slow athlete has made an embarrassing record to his name. Angered by this, Somalia’s sports minister took action and suspended the president of his country’s athletics federation.
Somalia has fielded a novice 100m sprinter Nasra Abubakar Ali at the ongoing World University Games in China. After which this novice sprinter took almost double the time of the athlete who won the sprint. After which the demand for the sacking of Somalia’s sports officials started rising. Somalia Sports Minister Mohamed Barre Mohamud has apologized to the country for Nasra being selected to represent the country in the 100m sprint at the University Games. Let us tell you that, according to a report, this athlete had absolutely no experience of participating in these games or any competition.

On the other hand, the people of Somalia are alleging that, when Nasra had no experience then how and why was he selected? However, now the Somalia Sports Ministry has suspended Khadij Aden Dahir, the chairwoman of The Somali Athlete Federation. Also in the statement it has been said that Nasra Abubakar Ali has not been identified as neither a player nor a runner.

However, this is not the first time that there has been controversy in Somalia over sending an athlete to an international competition. Even before this, there have been controversies regarding the selection of athletes many times. In the 2016 Rio Olympics, there was also a controversy regarding the athlete Marine Nuh Muse sent by Somalia. Muse took more than one minute and 10 seconds to complete the 400 meters race. While the average time is 48 seconds.
