Delhi court summons Bajrang Punia in defamation case

New Delhi (Best Hindu News): A Delhi court on Thursday summoned wrestler Bajrang Punia on September 6 in connection with a criminal defamation complaint filed against him by wrestling coach Naresh Dahiya.
The complainant has alleged that at a press conference held at Jantar Mantar on May 10 during a protest by women wrestlers against alleged sexual harassment by BJP MP and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, Punia, among others, Made derogatory remarks against wrestlers/individuals in association with them.
Metropolitan Magistrate Yashdeep Chahal said that he believed that all the elements of defamation were present in this case.
During the hearing, the magistrate said, “After considering the complaint, supporting documents and pre-summoning evidence, I am of the prima facie view that the defamation complaint is correct.” He said that the statement given in the press conference was not appropriate.
“Keeping this in view, accused Bajrang Punia be summoned for the offense punishable under section 499 read with section 500 (both relating to criminal defamation) of IPC,” the magistrate said.
