Anushka Sharma made her grand debut opposite Shah Rukh Khan in Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. Interestingly, Sonam Kapoor was also in the running to bag the film. In 2014, Sonam revealed how she walked out of the film. He had told a news portal that Manish Sharma had called him for the audition of ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’. But on the day of the final audition, Aditya Chopra told Sonam that he had a new girl and if she did well, he would go ahead with her.

After this conversation, Sonam Kapoor said that she convinced Aditya by saying that she too is a ‘new girl’. However, the filmmaker came to know that Sonam was playing the role of a Delhi girl in ‘Delhi 6’ and completely dropped the idea of casting Sonam. Sonam Kapoor told DNA that by the time she started shooting, Anushka and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi were in the running but the role eventually went to Anushka.

I didn’t even want to tell my parents
Recently on ‘The Romantics’, Anushka Sharma revealed how Aditya Chopra asked her to keep her casting in ‘Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi’ a secret even from her parents. The actress had said, ‘Everything was under wraps. No one knew about it and Adi didn’t want anyone to know that I was the lead actress. Adi literally told me, ‘You can’t tell anyone. You can’t even tell your parents. I said, huh?’ Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi was released in December 2008.

In an episode of ‘The Romantics’, Chopra shared, ‘I realized that I needed to give the company a big hit and I had to do it myself. The director said that he moved to London to write and came up with a story that focused on an unhappy couple and how the husband finds a different way to win her over. He recalled, ‘Everyone’s problem was how would she not recognize him? The film will fail in its premise. But when Aditya called Shahrukh, he immediately agreed to do the film.
