Johannesburg. Team India registered a one-sided victory in the first match of the ODI series played between India and South Africa on Sunday. After bowling out the hosts for 116 runs, India successfully chased the target in 16.4 overs by scoring 117 runs for the loss of two wickets. India won the match by eight wickets with 200 balls remaining and took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
After winning the toss and batting first, South Africa had set a modest target of 117 runs for India. Sai Surdashan and Shreyas Iyer played half-centuries for India and led the team to an easy victory.
Recovering from the initial shock in the form of Ruturaj Gaikwad (5 runs), there was an important partnership between Shreyas Iyer and SAI. Iyer (52 runs) and Sai (55 not out) did not give any chance to the South African team to make a comeback in the match. Shreyas Iyer was out after scoring 52 runs, he was sent to the pavilion by Andile Felukwayo. Then, Tilak Verma and Sai scored the winning runs.
South Africa won the toss and decided to bat first. The reason given was that spinners can get a lot of help here. However, the opposite happened and the Indian fast bowlers troubled the South African batsmen a lot. Due to the sharp bowling of Arshdeep and Avesh, the host team was all out on a simple score. After this, the excellent innings of Sudarshan and Shreyas did not give any chance to the South African bowlers to make a comeback.
Earlier, the Indian bowlers bowled brilliantly and all out the African team for just 116 runs in 27.3 overs. For India, Arshdeep took maximum 5 wickets for just 37 runs in 10 overs and became the player of the match. At the other end, Avesh Khan took 4 wickets for 27 runs in 8 overs and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket.
The condition of South Africa was such that three batsmen of the team adorned with veterans could not even open their account in Johannesburg. Andile Feluquayo scored the highest 33 runs for the team. Tony DeGeorge scored 28, Aiden Markram scored 12 and Tabraiz Shamsi scored 11 runs. The rest of the batsmen could not even cross the 10-run mark. Heinrich Klaasen could score only 6 runs, David Miller 2, Keshav Maharaj 4 and Nandre Berger could score only 7 runs.
