Pudhari Online Desk: Sri Lankan Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe on Monday (Dec. 6) sacked the National Cricket Board after India suffered a crushing defeat in the World Cup 2023. Ransinghe and the Board were at loggerheads for several months due to corruption allegations and after the defeat of Bharatvidh, the Cricket Board was dissolved. Arjun Ranatunga, the captain who won the 1996 World Cup for Sri Lanka, has been appointed as the Chairman of the new Cricket Board.

According to a request issued by the office of Sports Minister Ranasinghe, Ranasinghe has established an interim committee for Sri Lankan cricket. The new seven-member committee includes only retired judges of the Supreme Court and former Chairman of the Board. The steps have been taken a day after Board’s second highest official, Secretary Mohan de Silva, resigned. (Sri Lanka Cricket Board)
After Sri Lanka’s 302-run defeat to host India in last week’s World Cup, Ranasinghe had openly demanded the resignation of the entire board. While chasing India’s target of 358 runs, Sri Lanka had lost 6 wickets in 14 runs. After all, with only 55 runs, the entire organization would have been a hooligan. This is Sri Lanka’s fourth lowest score in World Cup history. The defeat caused angry reactions among the Sri Lankan fans. There would have been anti-board demonstrations on Saturday. After this, police have been deployed outside the Colombo Board office. Officials have no moral right to hold office. Ransinghe would have said that the Board officers should resign voluntarily. Earlier also he had accused Mandalwar of corruption. Sri Lanka will play against Bangladesh on Monday. They need to win this match like Asel to get a place in the last four of the World Cup.
