The annual meeting of the Grappling Committee of India was held at PWD Rest House, Gurugram on Saturday, March 9, 2024 at 10 am, which was presided over by GCI Chairman Dinesh Kapoor.
Indian Grappling Committee General Secretary Birju Sharma said that about 22 states participated in this meeting and discussions were also held for the upcoming National Championship tournament, South Asian as well as Asian Championship.
Disciplinary Committee, Women’s Grievance Committee, Technical Committee were formed after discussions with all the state committees. Consensus was also reached on creating zones in some states.
Many decisions were taken for the development of grappling sport which were supported by the entire House. For the development of grappling sport, discussions were also held to lay emphasis on training across the country and to provide maximum training by calling trainers from abroad.
In the meeting, apart from Chairman Dinesh Kapoor, General Secretary Birju Sharma, Treasurer Vinod Sharma, Vijay Sangwan, Pardeep Jailpuria, Arpan Singh, Dr. Bhupendra Yadav, Subhash Dawar, Krishna Kumar, Narendra Panwar, Vikash Kumar, Hemant Kumar, Antara Sarathi, All state heads and secretaries including Ronu Mandal, Jaiveer Dangi, Vikram Pehalwan, K Krishna, Manoj Dhull, Ramesh Kumar, Amit Kalsariya all participated.
Subhash Dawar, an entrepreneur and film producer from Gujarat, who successfully led Gujarat to the World Championship in Moscow in November 23 and won the World Championship with 105 medals and played an important role in encouraging the players, is the Chairman of the Grappling Committee. By appointing him to the post, he was given a new responsibility so that Gujarat state also continues to register its presence on the world stage in sports like grappling.
Chairman Mirza Saab and Secretary Amit Kalsaria from Gujarat were present and congratulated and welcomed Subhash Dawar. The meeting ended at 4 pm.
