New Delhi. India’s pair of Mona Agarwal and Aditya Giri won the silver medal in the mixed team air rifle standing (SH1) event at the Para Shooting World Cup on Sunday. India won two silver and two bronze medals on Sunday. Tokyo Paralympics gold medalist Manish Narwal and his partner Rubina Francis lost 12-16 to China’s Li Min and Yang Chao in the mixed team 10m air pistol (SH1) gold medal match.
The Indian pair of Bhakti Sharma and Rudraksh Khandelwal also won the bronze medal in this event by defeating the Cuban pair of Yenigladis Suarez and Loriga Rodriguez 16-8. This is Mona’s second medal in the current World Cup. This 37-year-old shooter from Jaipur secured the quota for Paris Paralympics with a gold medal in the women’s 10 meter air rifle SH1 event on Saturday. In qualification, Mona scored 315.4 while Giri scored 307.5, the pair scored 622.9 to set up a gold medal clash with the Chinese team.
The Chinese pair had secured the top position by scoring 627.9. The other Indian pair of Avani (310.9) and Swaroop (308.6) finished fourth in the qualification behind Ukraine with a score of 619.5. The Ukrainian pair scored 622.3 points. In the mixed team 10m Air Rifle Standing (SH2) event, India’s pair of Pavani Banoth and Satya Janardhan Rayana won the bronze medal by defeating New Zealand’s Natalie Brunzell and Kiranjit Singh in a tough match 17-15. The gold of this event was won by Brazil’s Jessica Dianne Michalak and Bruno Stove Kiefer.
The pair defeated the American team of Madison Champion and Ben Hayes 16-6. The pair of Manish Narwal and Rubina Francis were in contention for the gold medal in the mixed team 10m air pistol (SH1) event after topping the preliminary round by equaling the qualification world record (QWR) with a score of 570. Narwal scored 284 while Rubina scored 286 marks. China’s pair of Li Min and Yang Chao finished second with a total score of 562. However, the Chinese pair performed better in the final and deprived the Indian players of the gold.
