Success of ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ sparks debate, will Bollywood people get benefit by distributing free tickets?

Vicky Kaushal and Sara Ali Khan’s film ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ released last week at the box office, which has been yearning for a hit film for a long time, raised a ray of hope. In fact, this film surprised the film industry by earning more than 20 crores on the first weekend. Otherwise, not everyone expected this film to earn even half of its current earning. Some people say that the audience liked the film because of its good content. While some believe that the film got more viewers due to its makers offering one with one free ticket.

Let us tell you that on the first weekend of the film, about 2.5 lakh tickets were distributed free of cost to the audience due to the offer. Despite this, the film ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ has rained earnings at the box office. Due to the postponement of Shah Rukh Khan’s film ‘Jawaan’, which released on its release date, the film ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ will get one more time. Prabhas’ Adipurush is releasing next week. On the other hand Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel starrer film Gadar Ek Prem Katha also offered one free ticket to the audience. Significantly, Gadar, released in 2001, is being released in theaters once.

The reason why Zara Hatke Zara Bachche became a hit

Talking about this, producer and film business analyst Girish Johar says that it is not entirely correct to say that the audience has come to see the film ‘Zara Hatke Zara Bachke’ only because of one free ticket with one. If it was true, then earlier for many films, producers had made such offers, but those films did not get an audience. If the audience likes a film, they come to see it even without any offers.

‘Film should have guts’

On the other hand, if the film is good and there is an offer of one free along with its ticket, then it will definitely help in increasing it. However, I believe that instead of giving one ticket with one ticket, the filmmakers should directly reduce the price of cinema tickets by half. This benefits the audience more and more number of viewers reach the cinema. In the past too, we saw that due to such offers, housefull boards were put up in theatres. Cinema tickets were sold for Rs 75 on National Cinema Day, while people watched movies for Rs 99 on Cinema Lover’s Day. At the same time, Pathan’s tickets were also sold for Rs.100. A bigger example than that are films like Drishyam and Goodbye, which had 50 per cent discount on advance booking on the first day. But where Goodbye did not work, the content of Drishyam was good, so it earned more than 200 crores.

‘Free ticket won’t work’

While trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, ‘Zara Hut Ke Zara Bach Ke, which released last week, was liked by the audience due to its content, while the offer of one free ticket helped in increasing the business of the film. But here it would not be correct to say that the audience came to see the film only because of this offer. If the audience doesn’t like a film, then no amount of offers or free ticket schemes can save it from sinking at the box office. If Buy One Get One offer can make a film a success at the box office, then Kartik Aaryan and Kriti Sanon’s Shehzada should have made a huge opening day collection. The film did not do much at the box office, while its makers had offered one with one ticket free from day one. At the same time, the experts of the film world also say that if a film does not have guts, then the audience cannot be brought to the cinema hall by giving just one free ticket along with one. Of course, getting one free ticket with one increases the craze among the audience to come to the cinema hall, but theaters cannot be housefull on its own. It would be better if producers focus on making good films instead of giving away free tickets.

What do business analysts have to say?

It is not at all correct to say that the audience has come to watch the film Zara Hut Ke Zara Bach Ke just because of one free ticket with one. If it was true, then earlier for many films, producers had made such offers, but those films did not get an audience.
